[25 April 2000] Ted promises to fix the top 100 ladder links This morning I found 2 answers from Virtual Ted in my email box. He finally responded to my 3 weeks old questions. I had asked him about the not working links in the top 100 of the ladder and he said:
Is this really going to happen? If so I'm ready to party ;-)
[19 April 2000] "I was a tech support and i copyed every thing so you could post it or something MacMark: Thanks for sending AdamAnt99. Great info ;-) Looks like they *finally* getting things done.
[16 April 2000] "Dear MacMark, There seems to be a lot of confusion about the Ht(harvestor truce, harvester treaty, etc) I play a lot of players who want HT, which is fine with me, once being a newbie I found HT useful. But now I play HT only upon request or when I think it useful. I was under the impression HT means that your harvester is neutral, once you cross the line of neutral, HT is null and void, while I make it a practice to kill only the offending Harvester and not all of them, except when they begin openly attacking my harvesters in retaliation. The problem I am having is a lot of players "HTTbull" and his many alias being one of them is when they play me, they call me a cheater when they use there harvester to run my men over intenoinally(you can tell when its accident and when its not) and I kill their harvester for it. Then they scream that I cheated and they(HTTbull AKA: ron269, Iamunuasal, and two other which he pops in identifies himself insults me pops out and pops back in insults me, before I can ban him) are going to report me to you and you will "Blacklist" me and post my Wchat screen name as being a cheater for breaking HT, and no one who visits your website will play me(which it turns out is a lot of people). Being the fact I just learned of your site and have heard about it from a lot of players, I find this disturbing. I do not wish to be put on your blacklist for engaging in fair game play, by the same token I am not about to let someone change the balance of the game and let them win through unfair game play just to avoid being put on your blacklist. What do you suggest I do and if I am up for being on this blacklist how do I protest it?" (email from James) MacMark: There's no need to worry for You. In the blacklisted players and actual reports only games without rules are of interest for me. Playing with any rules results in having trouble only. I prefer to concentrate on the destruction of my enemy, not on please-don't-hurt-me-rules. Let's face it: This game may be for girls too, but only for tough ones... I don't know if HTTbull is all those nicks You mentioned. I furthermore doubt that he would play with HT. What do I suggest? Playing without rules of course ;-)
As mentioned earlier CmdrCD visited me yesterday at home. It was the 3rd time we met in real life. We talked about some private topics like job etc and about CnC of course. I think the latter would be of interest for You: The guy who hacked into Westwood to reactivate disabled nicks by giving them new passwords is Agentnrkh alias Articfire. That guy also discovered the sysop version of WChat on Westwood's server which allows him to be on several chat channels on WChat the same time. CmdrCD has had a telephone talk with VirtualTed asking him about the missing top100 links on the ladder. Ted told him that he has so much to do for Westwood that he rarely find some time to fix those bugs. But I think it's very important for us CnC players to have these links to the game history (who did they play, who won) working properly on the ladder. I suggest You all mail VirtualTed asking for the top100 links for CnC. Hope we get them then.
How to become a sysop on WChat I was wondering how to become a sysop for WChat and so I asked [Coeur] who's one of them. I was redirected to ask [Sunflight] for that and she sent me the following: "sorry but to my knowledge there is no mac version, but you are welcome to apply, (also please don't send files to my email). sun Hi :) Please fill out the application at bottom and return to Sunflight@aol.com Please reply with your application in the email and do not include any files. Thank you for volunteering to become a SYSOP on Westwood's "WESTWOOD ONLINE" chat server. Over the past 4 years, Westwood Online has become one of the most popular places to hang out, and THE most popular place to play games like Command & Conquer and our family games like GAMES PEOPLE PLAY. With the release of new games, we expect our growth to double in the next year. Being a SYSOP is not a responsibility to be taken lightly. We have very strict guidelines which must be upheld at all times, and it is crucial that you maintain a high degree of vigilance while you are logged on. However, this must be tempered with fairness, and without favoritism. Sysops never hold a grudge. Please realize that we have -very- few volunteer positions open. On the average, only 4-5 new sysops are picked each year, and you must be online for at least 15 hours each week. If you have an active lifestyle, or don't spend at least this much time online, then sysoping isn't for you. If you are not selected, please don't take it personally! In many cases, we're looking for people that can speak different languages, and can be online at very early hours in the morning. We want to ensure that we can help the widest variety of people 24 hours a day. If you are picked, it can take at least a *month* to get you online since paperwork must be signed, and you must be trained in how to handle certain situations. Again, thank you for your support! We will keep your application on file whether you are picked at this time or not. If you have already submitted an application, please do not send another since I already have all applications saved on file. Sincerely, Sunflight :) FIRST NAME : LAST NAME : ADDRESS : CITY, STATE, ZIP : COUNTRY : PHONE (+ AREA CODE) : WCHAT NICKNAME/HANDLES : BIRTHDATE : EMAIL ADDRESS : ICQ ADDRESS : Looks as if You should have to spend a lot of time in the chat rooms. I prefer playing. Also if they have no Mac version of the sysop program it's not for me. But maybe this is of interest for You...
[14 April 2000] As some of You might know CmdrCD and me met already 2 times in real life. Well tomorrow will be the 3rd time :-) He comes visiting me in Paderborn (Germany). We're both german and don't live too far away from each other. Okay, back to the topic. I saw in recent days someone abusing CD's nick on WChat. In telephone talk with CD the things became clearer: It was the guy who hacked into Westwood's password server and got CD his original nick back for some Dollars. Unfortunatly the only way to do that was to make a new password for "CmdrCD". So this guy knows CD's password and broke his promise not to use it. CD is quite angry about that. It's only the original CmdrCD if You have him on ICQ too or if he goes as "Kalilord" which nick has a password only known by CD himself. Buttom line: Why is Westwood's server so insecure?
[08 April 2000] Today Virtual Ted finally reset the CnC ladder. That means the April tourney will last only for 3 weeks. Also I won't publish any winners for March. Rumor had it that the ladder was frozen during the last days, but that was wrong. The ladder updated continuously until today. I've mailed Ted about the ladder problem 2 times during the last few days. I also asked him to fix the top100 links which should give You the gaming history of those players. But he didn't answer yet. In a tech support chat session some guys told Tim (Westwood guy) about the ladder-not-rest-issue too. Westwood thought they have had reset it but promised to look into into it. Well, they finally got it fixed.
[02 April 2000] I watched the ladder during the last few days and found it hasn't frozen until today. Even on 03 pm German time today the ladder is still updating. Won't it reset? So we don't have an official end for March 2000 yet. |
